Adjusting to Ramadan - From a Muslim Professional's Perspective

Ramadan Kareem my brothers and sisters in Islam! We’re now deep into the holy month of Ramadan where many of us have all made our daily routines transform in order to adjust to a new cadence. This has also had an impact on the work-life balance of many busy Muslim professionals, especially in the western and non-Islamic countries, where the broader system is not adiusted for Ramadan. It does require some adjustments on our part to both stay productive at work and also derive the most spiritual benefits fom Ramadan. The Productive Muslim company has put together a great program, called “High-Performance Ramadan”, which I highly recommend that you attend (it is free!). It provides simple steps on how to manage our energy, focus on how to get the most out of Ramadan as a busy Muslim. I highly recommend it. They also provide many additional resources on this subject which I find very valuable. In this blog, I would like to add some more practical tips and guidance on how we can maximize this Ramadan.

How to optimize work on a typical Ramadan week day.

The program provides great guidance on how to be productive in Ramadan – both from a working and spiritual perspective. However, we all know how our cognitive and energy levels drains as the Ramadan day progresses. We are typically at our peak energy and cognitive levels right after Farj (fueled by the Suhur food and coffee/tea).n the absence of a mid-day meal and additional doses of caffeine throughout the day, we typically feel more drained after mid-day than we’d normally be. In my opinion, the time between Farj and Zuhr prayers represents the best opportunity to get done your creative work that requires greater level of focus, cogitation and energy. This means that we start our work day as early as possible – right after Farj prayers since we don’t need to spend any time on breaktast than we traditionaly do on non-fasting days.

Science And Islam

INTRODUCTION: There exists many religions in the world and out of these, 33% population don’t believe in God . So sad I understand, but today I am explaining to you about how Islam is the latest version of God’s religion and how science has to reach that version of God to make the whole world understand that God exists. The man who lived 1400 year ago had all the knowledge of before and after life and also, he showed us wonderful ways on how to live in this world. Yes, I am talking about Prophet Muhmmad (S.A.W), because of him today Islamic followers have more knowledge than science can teach. There are some points which were against Islam but now science accepts them, they are as follows: Performing of Salah (Namaz): The act of prayer requires the worshiper to move through several distinct bodily postures while reciting a specific supplication. Salah involves a certain level of physical activity which includes standing, bowing, prostrating and sitting consecutively. Each position involves the movement of different parts of the human body in ways that some muscles contract isometrically (same length) and some contract in approximation or isotonically (same tension). The prayer movements would enhance flexibility and general muscular fitness. This results to moderate physical exercise particularly to the large muscle group and encourages good health and wellbeing. Besides being an excellent form of exercise, physical activity breaks the monotony of chores. Sacrificing of animal on Eid-ul-Adha:- If all people in the world sacrifice an animal to feed the poor people out there, none of the people in this world will sleep hungry. Science has its point of veiw regarding this, as it says that each and every creature has the right to live on this earth, but the question occurs here that what did our elders do when they were hungry, and didn’t want to eat herbivorous food? Benefits of DATES are as follow – Very nutritious. – High in fiber. – High in disease fighting antioxidants. – May promote brain health. – – – May promote natural labor. – Excellent natural sweetener. – Other potential health benefits. – Easy to add to your diet. 6 – Always sit and drink water: – Drinking water while sitting is desirable but not obligatory according to Islam, science also says it will impact your kidney. CONCLUSION: Over all the signs mentioned in the Quran, the Almighty (Allah) wants to tell us that “HE IS ONE“,and if we follow our Prophet (Muhmmad S.A.W) we will be on the right path.

The One Who Responds To Our Dua

Sometimes in our lives, we overlook many things which we should rather be more focused on. We do that because we do not pay attention to petty things due to the monotony of life, and we stop practicing it without even knowing how much power it contains. Speaking about power, Allah (SWT) is the most powerful and most high. And He likes to be called again and again by His servants. There are many times in our lives, as a matter of fact, almost every day when we need help and assistance, but we are too shy to ask people. We need attention and support from someone to get our things done, and also make time for us to relieve our misery. Humans can have this capacity to a certain extent, but it’s only our maker, Allah (S.W.T) who is always there to listen, help, and respond to our every single call. Even if we call Him thousands of times a day, He will always be there to attend to us. Allah (S.W.T) is giving His word that, He will hear you! is it not enough to believe that, He is always listening to us despite our shortcomings?. We should all pour out our hearts solely to Him, and ask for His help anytime, anywhere, without doubting for a second of being unheard. Whenever our beloved Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) faces any difficulty in his life, he would pray “Nafla” and make dua. It was his sunnah that he would raise his hands immediately to seek Allah (S.W.T) for help. Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) told us about the importance of making dua several times: 1 – “Dua is worship”. 2 – “The person who does not make dua to Allah (S.W.T), He becomes angry with him.” 3 – “Verily your lord is generous and shy, and if His servant raises his hands to Him, He becomes shy to return them empty”. 4 – “Whosoever desires that Allah (S.W.T) answers his dua in an unfavorable and difficult conditions, he should make plentiful dua for the days of ease and comfort.” Believe it! Allah is not tired of listening to your dua. Converse with him about everything that bothers you and He will not just calm you, but will also fulfill your needs and solve the issue, Subhan’Allah Remember! Make it your habit to keep on asking for His help in your daily routine. For instance, if you do not get a place to park your car, make dua, and He will find you a good space. If you want to have a taste of food while cooking, seek His help and He will add flavor to it, Subhan’ALLAH. Muhammad (S.A.W.) has also told us about the different times when the prayers are accepted, they are:
  1. Fard prayers
  2. Between Adhan and Qiyaam
  3. Tahajud (1/3 of the night)
  4. When it is raining
  5. While traveling
  6. While breaking fast
Allah (S.W.T)will quickly fulfill his supplication, He will store it for him in the hereafter, or He will divert an evil away from you “(by taking the calamity away).” Making dua regularly is a sign that Allah is loving to converse with you, Subhan’Allah.

Easy Ways to Continue Receiving Blessings After Ramadan

Is Ramadan so far gone that we have fallen back into our old habits? It is important to remember that the sign of a productive Ramadan is that we are better people in the months after Ramadan than before .

With that in mind, it is important to find simple ways to continue the good habits we started or strengthened during Ramadan.

Here are 3 easy-to-do habits that can help us receive blessings in our post-Ramadan lives:

Continue building our relationship with the Qur’an

Ramadan holds its significance because it is the month in which the Qur’an was revealed.

This is why many Muslims seek to strengthen their relationship with the Qur’an during this month by reciting it and studying its meaning.

Though Ramadan may have ended, we should not abandon our relationship with the Qur’an.

After all, one of the best ways to build a relationship with Allah is to build a relationship with His Word.

The recitation doesn’t have to be a major daily commitment. It can be as simple as reciting three verses a day or studying a few pages of tafseer a day.

When it comes to reciting the Qur’an, some people may be hesitant to do it because they may be slower readers or not as smooth in their Arabic recitation.

Encourage people everyday

Kindness is one of the best forms of Islamic charity, and kindness can be as simple as a smile.

The way we treat others is just as important as the traditional worship that we do (prayers, fasting, etc.).

With that in mind, we should try to consciously be kind toward others because the rewards for kindness are manyfold.

One habit that can really benefit us in the long-run is to encourage or uplift two people a day.

This can be in the form of an encouraging text/phone call, an uplifting word to a co-worker or a stranger we meet at the grocery store, or a friendly smile when we walk by someone.

Pledge to do a little bit of monetary charity on the weekly or daily basis

The deeds Allah loves best are the small deeds that are done on the regular basis.

Giving a dollar a day or fifty cents a day will not put a dent in most of our bank accounts; however, that small amount can change lives and reap us an immense reward if we do it with the right intention.

With Ramadan ending, it’s the best time to create good habits like these. One fantastic way to do this is to sponsor an orphan or a family.

In regards to orphans, taking care of orphans and widows are two of the greatest forms of monetary charity, and there are countless hadiths about this.Thankfully, there are many Islamic charities that have set up systems to make sponsoring orphans a very convenient endeavor for us.  I’d like to end by saying that anything good I said came from Allah.Anything I unintentionally said in error came from me, and I ask for your forgiveness if I said anything wrong.

Hardships In Life Blessing in Disguise

I am a born Muslim who was privileged enough to grow up in Arabia, the land of the Prophet (SAW). However, growing up in a Muslim family wasn’t all rainbows and sunshine. You might be surprised to learn that belonging to a Muslim family does not automatically guarantee that you will be spiritually uplifted by your family and friends. The hardships that I endured forced me to search for my faith, and strangely enough, those hardships actually strengthened my faith more than the times of ease and comfort. I learned to appreciate blessings and deeply understood the meaning of Tawbah in my life. It’s also worth mentioning that I understood more profoundly that this life is a test. In the face of injustice, I was among those who lacked adequate support. In spite of being faced with traumatic experience, my family’s violence taught me the most valuable lesson in life. I moved to Canada, which was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Now I study at a good college as an international student and it has been a miraculous journey of recovery and healing after a life of trauma and struggles. It was hard finding the right support to heal from the effects of domestic violence and it negatively affected my academic performance since I did spend the first 15 years of my life as a student. It affected my health, affected my relationships, and affected almost every other aspect of my life. Today, I’m in a much better place mentally, spiritually, and physically. InshaAllah, I hope others can learn from my journey that our iman matters. It’s written in the Quran to hold tightly to the rope of Allah and that’s what I did. That’s why I don’t have feelings of regret regarding my past. It was a part of my destiny which I had to deal with and overcome. There were many good moments in life too but the reason I’m focusing on the hardships today is because in today’s age its hard to feel like we belong or relate to someone closely. It is also true that when hardships befall us, we may lose hope, and feel helpless and alone as a result. That is when I began to reflect on examples of other Prophets from the Quran as well as authentic Hadith and discovered that the Prophets and other righteous people of the past were also tested during their lifetime, just as other believers will be tested also. It is worth mentioning that we shouldn’t take the stories from the Quran  narrations as mere fairy tales or bedtime stories. Certainly, Prophet Muhammad (SAW) is the final Messenger of God and our generation is the last before the day of Judgment occurs. Therefore we should take him and his companions as our role models instead of looking up to social media influencers or celebrities. We may feel a sense of disconnection from the Prophets and the Sahabah since we were born in a very different time and age, and our world has become very fast-paced, modern and advanced. However, that shouldn’t serve as an excuse to live life according to our own wishes and desires. As the human being is created by Allah (SWT) and therefore the best guide is the guidance gifted to us by Allah through the Quran and Sunnah.
